Classes

Below is our 2023-2024 timetable. The time table is split between our Tuesday Milngavie/Bearsden classes, and our Wednesday Lenzie classes. If you would like to see class descriptions with in-depth detail as to what each class will entail, please scroll down past the class schedules.

Not sure which group your child falls into this year? Age groups are as follows:

Mini - age 2 and a half to 5 years (Pre Primary)

Junior - Primary 1 - Primary 7 (some classes are split between P1-4 and P5-7 and are clearly labeled)

Senior - S1 and above (up to age 21)

Compulsory – Each Group of Pupils will have one compulsory class per week which is Mandatory to attend. All other styles are optional. The Compulsory class will be a contemporary class until the exams at Christmas time (this is the only class that it is also mandatory to sit exams). Then after Christmas the Compulsory Class will be a fusion of Commercial and Contemporary. This means for the show next year everyone will have 2 dances. 1 – a fun commercial dance and 2 – a contemporary dance where you will learn new skills, floor work and the core techniques of a contemporary dancer.

Lyrical – During the lockdown classes, so many of the students excelled at this style! I knew I had to bring it in to DR as soon as possible. So, I have chosen to combine our lyrical and Acro classes. This class will create beautiful flowing routines and will include acro elements within the choreography. Don’t worry, you do not need to be a gymnast to join this class. We will build on acro skills you may already have, develop new ones, or keep it simple with getting you stretched properly to work to the best of your ability during the lyrical choreography.

Jazz – Ever since our ad hoc “Jazz in Jammies” class, it was clear Jazz needed its own class! You may still get elements of Jazz in your compulsory classes during exam season however this is where we will do the real deal! We will work on your technique, give you the history of where the amazing art form arose from and create some amazing choreography! From old school Fosse to the commercial Jazz people like Brian Friedman are creating today.

Ballet- This is the foundation of ALL DANCE! At Dance Republic we have amazing Ballet teachers that will take you through a BATD syllabus. It is extremely important that ballet is developed in order to progress successfully in most other styles. It teaches you’re the foundations of dance as a whole.

Street – In this class we will be exploring grooves, hip hop, house, funk and a whole lot more! Street is a great class to let go, have fun, and it is always a crowd pleaser at our shows.

Beat Boys – Our beat boys’ class is a boys only street class. Boys … No more spending the first half hour of your class with the girls then the last 15 mins on your own. You now have the full class to yourselves. We also have an amazing new teacher this year that will not only teach new street skills, but she is a trained gymnast and is going to show you guys some break dancing and work our way up to flipping and cool street stunts!

Tap – Our old favourite. Tap teaches us the rhythm of dance. It teaches you timing and coordination which will help you in all of your other styles.
